Karl Lagerfeld
Karl Lagerfeld is a highly secretive and controversial figure. He is an artist, a photographer, and a designer. Today just the thought of Chanel brings to mind his image – with white hair, wearing classy black sunglasses and the constant gloves covering his hands.
But the road to Chanel was a long one for Karl Lagerfeld. His first encounter with the fashion world was as an apprentice at Pierre Balmain, where he spent 3 years. Then 5 more years went by – during this period he worked for Jean Patou, creating his provocative collections with low necklines, low backs, and short skirts. 1983 was the year that marked the beginning of his journey as a creative director in Chanel.
His brand was created a year later – in 1984, accomplishing success after success. His collection in collaboration with H&M was sold in just two days! Meanwhile, he also took advantage of his photographer’s skills, creating ad campaigns for names like Chanel and Fendi, and working with celebrities and world famous magazines.
His first perfume, Lagerfeld Classic, was launched in 1978. One of his perfumes, Sun, Moon, Stars, was a huge success in the 1990’s. Today his perfumes are created in collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger with the help of perfumers like Emilie (Bevierre) Coppermann, Mark Buxton, Olivier Cresp, Firmenich, Christine Nagel, Sophia Grojsman, etc.
