Guerlain

With over 175 years of history, the French company Guerlain is among the oldest perfume houses in the world. Known for the rare and luxurious ingredients they put in their perfumes (they even have their own plantations), Guerlain is also a brand that uses innovative techniques – they are the first to use a synthetic component in a perfume.

Guerlain was founded in 1828 by Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain. The first modern perfume is a Guerlain perfume, called Jicky. It is created in 1889. Ever since the company has been creating some of the best perfumes in the history of perfumery like Mitsouko (1919), Shalimar (1925), and Vetiver (1959), to name a few.

In 1994 the brand was bought by LVMH and 2002 saw the end of Guerlain as a family company. Offering about 300 perfumes nowadays, Guerlain manages to create fragrances that appeal to everybody’s taste.
