The American fashion house Viktor & Rolf was founded in 1993. A relatively new contributor to the fashion industry, the company founders have managed to skillfully blend art and fashion, employing fantastical techniques, broadcasting what was supposed to be a live runway via Internet, etc. Their creativity and sense of fashion have brought them numerous fans around the world.
Ever since the brand’s creation, its founders, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, haven’t ceased to provoke, astonish, and question the straightforward direction of the contemporary fashion lines. In 1996, for example, instead of presenting their spring collection, they went “on strike”, clutching placards and leaving a memorable appearance behind.
2006 was the year that got them their most notable collaboration, namely a global fashion collection for H&M. Two years later, in 2008, the Italian fashion magnate Renzo Rosso, President of OTB Group, (owner of the brands Dsquared, Maison Martin Margiela, Marni and Diesel), bought a controlling interest in the company, taking it on the international fashion stage.
Their first perfume, launched in 1996, “Le Parfum”, was advertised as a “virtual” scent. It was actually pure water, packaged in a bottle that was impossible to open. Their first “regular” fragrance, Flowerbomb for women, was launched in 2005.
